All-Season Blooms for Your Fargo-Moorhead Eid-Co Home
There is nothing quite like that first morning in a new home when the sun hits your front porch and the neighborhood is quiet and peaceful. At Eid-Co Homes, we put so much heart into the craftsmanship of your house—from the energy-efficient windows to our signature permanent wood foundations—but we know there’s nothing like a good first impression, and that starts at the curb!
As the North Dakota spring finally settles in, it’s time to think about landscaping. Because our growing season is short but sweet, we want flowers that work as hard as we do! So in this article, we’re sharing our favorite front yard flowers that will keep your home looking vibrant and welcoming from the last frost of spring all the way to the first pumpkin on the porch.
"All-Summer" All-Stars (Annuals)
If you want color that simply doesn't quit, annuals are your best friend. These are perfect for window boxes or flower beds right near your entryway:
- SuperTunia Petunias: Unlike old-fashioned petunias, these "wave" varieties are self-cleaning (no deadheading required!) and will create a literal carpet of color until the hard frost hits.
- Zinnias: These are tough as nails! They love the Fargo sun and will give you bright, cheerful pops of orange, pink, and yellow all season long. Plus, they make great cut flowers for your kitchen island!
- Geraniums: A classic for a reason. They handle the North Dakota wind like champs and stay looking regal and upright in pots or beds.
"Set It and Forget It" Perennials
For the homeowner who loves "Functional Design," these perennials come back every year and bloom for an impressively long time in Zone 4:
- "Walker’s Low" Catmint – Late Spring – Fall – A beautiful lavender-blue spike that is incredibly hardy and drought-tolerant.
- Coneflowers (Echinacea) – Mid-Summer – Fall – These native beauties are tough, attract butterflies, and stay looking great for months.
- Black-Eyed Susans – Mid-Summer – Frost – Their golden-yellow petals bring a "sunshine" vibe to any front yard.
- Stella de Oro Daylilies – Early Summer – Fall – One of the most reliable "re-bloomers" that thrives in our local soil.
Landscaping with "Comfortable Living" in Mind
At Eid-Co Homes, we focus on homes that are as efficient as they are beautiful. When planting your front yard, keep these tips in mind to match your home’s high-end feel:
- Mulch is Key: A good layer of wood mulch helps retain moisture during our dry August days, saving you time on watering!
- Layering Heights: Put your taller Coneflowers in the back and the shorter "Stella" Daylilies in the front to create a professional, tiered look that highlights your home’s architecture.
- Complement the Color: If your Eid-Co home features a cool-toned exterior, try vibrant yellows and oranges to make it "pop." If you have a warmer exterior, purples and whites look stunningly sophisticated!
