Laundry Mistakes to Avoid

When you buy a new home from Eid-Co, you get a home with all slew of modern conveniences. Including all new appliances like washers and dryers. Machine washing laundry from the comfort of your own home can make this regular household chore so much easier and free up time in between loads to do other things. In order to keep these helpful appliances running smoothly for years and years, there are a few common mistakes you should avoid. Let’s get into them.

Overloading the Washing Machine

This is one of the most tempting mistakes to make, overloading the washing machine. But stuffing the washing machine with too many clothes can result in inefficient cleaning. Overloading also puts stress on the machine and may lead to wear and tear over time.

Neglecting to Check Pockets

Failing to check pockets for items like tissues, pens, or loose change can lead to a mess and damage to both your clothes and the washing machine. Make sure to double check those pockets for chapstick and things before tossing them in the washing machine drum.

Using Too Much Detergent

Excessive detergent can leave a soapy residue on your clothes and may contribute to machine buildup. A lot of detergents on the market today are concentrated formulas. Meaning you need much less than you might think. Follow the recommended detergent usage instructions on the product label.

Using the Wrong Water Temperature

Using hot water for all loads may shrink or damage clothes that require cold water. Again, pay attention to the recommended water temperature on care labels.

Not Emptying the Lint Filter

Neglecting to clean the lint filter in your dryer can reduce its efficiency, increase drying time, and pose a fire hazard. Regularly clean the lint filter after each use.

Neglecting the Washing Machine

Your washing machine can develop mold, mildew, and odors if not cleaned regularly. Run a hot water cycle with vinegar or a washing machine cleaner to keep it fresh and clean.

To avoid these common laundry mistakes, take the time to read care labels, sort your laundry properly, use the right detergents and settings, and be mindful of items that can cause damage or staining. Proper laundry practices can help extend the life of your clothes and maintain their appearance.
