Should You Get Puppy

There has recently been a surge in puppy adoptions because of the events that are going on. A lot of parents have found that it would be helpful for their kid if they had a fuzzy little animal around the house to take care of. This is a big decision though, so you want to consider all the pros and cons to make sure that you and your kids are really ready for this kind of responsibility. Eid-Co Homes wants you to be able to have the best family life possible.

Pros

Having a dog can teach your kids responsibility. When you get them as a puppy, they have to be potty trained. Many people do that through crate training which means that they have to get up in the middle of the night when they start whining to let them go potty. Helping to explain that to your kids can help you to decide whether they are truly up to the task. Additionally, there is a lot of other training that goes along with getting a puppy. Your kids have to spend every day with the puppy to train them. From the moment that you bring them home you should start training your puppy. Start with their name. Then move onto sit, stay, and lay down. They have to regularly take them on walks and teach them how to walk beside them and not pull on the leash. What this means is that your kids will have their work cut out for them. The first couple of months will be the hardest but the most important to stick with but will pay off. Note that you should disclose to your kids that they have to pick up the poop as well.

Other benefits besides teaching your kids responsibility is that animals are known to help to sooth emotions. If one or more of your kids battle with anxiety or depression, an animal can really help them to deal with such feelings and emotions that come along with that.

Cons

Puppies love to destroy things, so you can plan on your favorite pair of shoes being gone and at least one chair leg with teeth marks on them. If you’re not prepared for this to happen or you have something that is very expensive that you don’t want chewed on, then take every precaution to keep it up off the floor.

The other thing that you have to be prepared for is that there will be accidents on your carpet. You will have to make sure that you have in mind what you want to keep the carpets up with when it does happen. Because it isn’t an “if” but a “when”.

The last and probably most considered con to getting a puppy is that they are expensive. It isn’t just buying a puppy, but you have to buy all the needed supplies and food. They will grow out of a lot of the things you buy in the beginning, so it isn’t a one and done shopping day for them.
