Plumbing Tips Every Homeowner Should Know
If you have ever seen your parents spend hours and hours trying to fix a plumbing issue in your home, you know that some problems are better left to a professional. However, some fixes are easier than you might expect. If you have done your homework, handling small scale plumbing issues can be a breeze. That is why your friends at Eid-Co Homes want to share a handful of tips to help you take care of the plumbing system in your home.
1. Be careful what you flush
"Flushable wipes", paper towels, and random cosmetic items are all common culprits for what can clog pipes in a toilet. Toilet paper is pretty much the only bathroom product that should go down the toilet. In addition, be careful with things like rice, pasta, or grease with your garbage disposal -- these can cause clogs too.
2. Know where your pipes are.
Have a remodeling project you want to tackle? Great! Before you drill any holes or break through drywall, make sure you know where the pipes are in your home. Breaking a pipe can mean an expensive, complicated plumbing fix.
3. Know where the shut-off valves are
If you do have to do plumbing work, it is crucial to know where the shut-off valves for each part of the system are. If you have moved recently, make sure you and all your family members know where these valves are. It can mean the difference between a small mistake and a major flooding issue.
4. Be careful with bolts and screws.
If you are like the majority, your instinct is to really tighten every bolt and screw that you use. By over-tightening a leaky area, you could cause damage to pipes and fittings and cause another leak. Make sure that connections are "snug", not super tight.
5. Have some plumber's tape around
Plumber's tape is the perfect quick fix for plumbing issues. It can help prevent leaks and seal pipes. It is a necessary preventative measure to make sure that your whole system works well.
We hope you have found these tips useful. Hopefully, you can use them to save yourself some money in the future and keep your home in tip top shape for years to come.
