Things You Should Never Vacuum Up

We take pride in our homes. Part of the way we do that is by keeping the spaces we live in clean and tidy. Vacuuming is an essential household chore that helps to keep our homes clean and free of dust, dirt, and other debris. However, there are certain things that should not be vacuumed due to the potential damage it may cause to the item, the vacuum cleaner itself, or even to our health. In this article, we will discuss some of the things you should avoid vacuuming.

Liquid spills

Vacuuming up liquid spills may seem like an efficient way to clean up a mess, but it can damage your vacuum cleaner's motor and potentially cause electrocution. Instead, use a mop or absorbent towels to soak up the liquid spill.

Small objects

Small objects such as coins, buttons, and paper clips should not be vacuumed as they can get stuck in the hose or block the motor. If you accidentally vacuum up small objects, turn off the vacuum cleaner immediately and carefully remove the blockage.

Fragile items

Fragile items such as ceramic figurines, vases, and delicate glassware should not be vacuumed as the suction can cause them to break. Instead, use a soft cloth or duster to clean them.

High-pile carpets

Vacuuming high-pile carpets with a beater bar or rotating brush can damage the fibers and cause fraying. Use a vacuum cleaner with a suction-only setting or a handheld vacuum to clean high-pile carpets.

Electronics

Vacuuming electronic devices such as televisions, computers, and stereos can cause damage to the delicate components and potentially cause electrocution. To clean things like electronics, simply run a soft cloth over them or use canned air to clear debris in between fine spaces.

Fine dust

Fine dust such as flour, talcum powder, and drywall dust should not be vacuumed as it can clog the vacuum's filter and potentially cause the motor to overheat. Use a broom or dustpan to clean up fine dust.

Ultimately, while vacuuming is an essential household chore, not all household items or substances should be tackled with the vacuum cleaner. By following these guidelines, you can keep your vacuum cleaner working efficiently and keep your home clean and safe.
